You do not learn everything at school. Many people can have an impressive degree and know how to make calculations, but when it comes to public speaking or preparing a good meal, they do not know where to start. Here are seven basic skills that everyone needs to know and how to learn them for free.
Rather than gaining basic personal finance skills at school, many of us had to learn financial lessons through expensive trials. Learning to respect a budget means that you can avoid and pay off your debts, save for your retirement and eventually buy a house or enjoy a dream vacation.
There are several budgeting techniques you can use, but you basically want to start tracking all your bills and all your expenses and finally see where you can reduce. Then move these extra funds to pay off a debt or a savings account. Keeping all this information in one place, such as a spreadsheet, will be your best way to get a clear picture of your finances. 2. Speaking in public
Although many will not choose a career that requires constant speech, such as a pastor or politician, we will all have to speak in public at some point. Whether for a business meeting, a wedding address or a eulogy, you will have to stand up in front of a group of people and not faint with nerves.
You can view the free public speaking course at the University of Washington through Coursera or rent books containing tips on mastering this technique in your local library. You can even practice monologues in front of a mirror or for a group of friends.
3. Quick reading
Reading at a higher speed while maintaining understanding can help you enjoy more books in less time. And depending on your area of activity, this can also help you accomplish your tasks faster (and hopefully get a bigger increase).
Some free reading classes are offered by Skillshare and other free educational platforms. One of the most outstanding courses on Skillshare is the fast-reading mastery of Jordan Harry, a TEDx speaker who says he can read 1,500 words a minute. Skillshare charges $ 15 per month, but you can get the first month free and take unlimited classes during this introductory period.
4. Speak a second language
If fluency in a second language is on your list, stop waiting for enough free time to begin. You can learn a new language by committing 15 to 30 minutes a day with free audio books from the library or free online classes.
Duolingo is one of the most popular free language platforms and simplifies the learning process to make it more enjoyable. Many languages are offered, including Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. There is even an option to learn Valyrian High from Game of thrones or Klingon's Star Trek. There are so many kitchen items, but everyone should feel comfortable enough in the kitchen to prepare a delicious meal with the ingredients they have. When you can look into your pantry and refrigerator and turn your staples into dinner, you will not always be tempted to order takeaway.
Jamie Oliver offers several YouTube videos about cooking basics, such as roasting a chicken or preparing perfect scrambled eggs, as well as classic dishes such as spaghetti carbonara. Once you've mastered the basics of cooking, move on to the next level with Gordon Ramsay's YouTube lessons. And since you are not a candidate on The kitchen of hellyou will not be screamed at if you make a mistake.
The simple fact of learning the basics of sewing can save you a lot of money because you will be able to repair minor rips, reattach buttons and even too long pants instead of buying new ones clothes all the time. You will also be equipped to adjust your clothes or those of your children during weight fluctuations or growth spurts.
The Internet is full of tutorials and free sewing patterns, but the Made Everyday sewing lessons on YouTube are a good starting point.
You do not need to learn to become the next successful author, but you must learn to get your message out in writing. A well-written letter or e-mail can save you money on your bills, get you a job, appease a family or friend conflict, or help you improve your situation in the workplace.
