GENEVA (Reuters) – Iran can flourish under the sanctions and defeat the United States in the economic war that it has unleashed, the deputy head of the Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday.

The United States has again imposed sanctions on Iran's oil, banking and transportation sectors and has threatened to take further action to stop Tehran's missile and nuclear programs and limit its influence in other countries. such as Syria, Yemen and Lebanon.

"The enemy is trying to carry a blow to Iran through a soft war and economic war, but they will face a heavy defeat," said the Brigadier General of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, quoted by the state news agency IRNA.

"Iran has been able to advance in any area where the enemy has imposed sanctions on Islamic Iran," he said.

In addition, Salami declared that the Lebanese Hezbollah had Israel "under the yoke of death,"

"Today, Zionists are encircled and shuttling between life and death," he said.

Iran and Hezbollah are key military supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Israel has organized several air raids against Iranian militias and the Iranian army in Syria.
