Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Minorities, K.T. Jaleel accused of bribery and nepotism in appointing a member of his family to a key position in the Minority Finance Development Corporation.
At a press conference held Wednesday in Beijing, Mr. Chennithala said that he had written to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to demand the ouster of Mr. Jaleel, his action constituting bribery and nepotism within the meaning of Section 13 (B) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
He said that the same conditions that led to the resignation of E.P. Jayarajan as Industry Minister a year ago triumphed in the case of Dr. Jaleel. Following the Jayarajan case, the Cabinet introduced, on October 13, 2016, certain selection standards for candidates for the positions of Director General, Director General and Director General.
These standards were approved when Mr. Jaleel's parent was appointed.
