Residents expressed concern over the gasoline depot in two wells of a residential locality near K.S. Hegde Medical Academy in Deralakatte on Thursday.
According to G. Thippeswamy, district fire officer, residents called the fire and emergency services on Wednesday night about the presence of gasoline. These two open wells are located near the IOCL gas berth. Residents alleged gasoline seepage into storage facilities at the gas bunk.
Thippeswamy said he and a team of fire and emergency services went to the scene Thursday morning. The gasoline deposit was noticed in wells of a depth of 30 feet. "We do not have the opportunity to drain deposits so deeply. The IOCL staff was called, "he said.
An IOCL official said a team of staff had been sent to the scene to investigate the cause of the gasoline dump in both wells.
