Modi, Rahul south of Chattisgarh

On the penultimate day of the election campaign, before the first phase of voting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi will attend meetings of the Bastar Division of south of Chattisgarh, which is predominantly Maoist.

Mr. Modi will participate in a rally in Jagdalpur around 1 pm, while Mr. Gandhi will attend three public meetings and a roadshow.

After the meeting in Jagdalpur, Mr. Modi will leave for the capital Raipur in the late afternoon. "Around 15:30, he will leave for Delhi," said a statement from the BJP.

Prime Minister Raman Singh will visit his constituency in Rajnandgaon after the Jagdalpur meeting and attend a public rally in Rajnandgaon. He will then go to Raipur.

Mr. Gandhi has planned to spend the night in Chattisgarh. He will attend three public meetings and a tour of shows in Rajnandgaon and stay at home.

On Saturday, he will attend three meetings, including one in Jagdalpur, and return to Delhi, said Sailesh Nitin Trivedi, a congressional spokesman in that state.
