No nod to call at the airport after Rani Chennamma

Senior Minister HD Kumaraswamy said Thursday that the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Union had not accepted the state's proposal to appoint Belagavi airport after Kittour Rani Chennamma.

Responding to a question from Kavatagimath Mahantesh Mallikarjun, Chief Opposition Whip in the Legislative Council, the Prime Minister said he was ready to pursue the matter with the Union Government. "I will meet the Minister of Civil Aviation of the Union on one of my next visits to Delhi to consider this proposal," he said.

The reasons for the Center's refusal have not been revealed. In response to a question from Ayanur Manjunath of the BJP, the Chief Minister announced that he would convene a meeting to discuss issues relating to the development of an airport at Shivamogga. He added that the state government had released 25.96 crore rupees for the acquisition of land for use under the public-private partnership model. Submissions would be invited to develop a small airport without frill, said the Chief Minister.
